Microsoft, Cisco Further Partnership

Cisco Systems Inc. and Microsoft Corp. today announced that they have extended their joint development agreement for the Microsoft Active Directory service in Windows 2000 Server.

This extension builds on a partnership formed in May 1997, in which Cisco and Microsoft agreed to jointly enhance Active Directory to simplify the provisioning and management of network devices and services, and to offer advanced personalized networking services to customers.

In its collaboration with Microsoft, Cisco is developing Cisco Networking Services for Active Directory (CNS/AD), a family of networking services built on the Microsoft Active Directory platform. CNS/AD integrates the knowledge of network services, identity, security, policies and user profiles so applications can easily interact with Active Directory and access Cisco IOS software networking services. CNS/AD enables Cisco's service provider and enterprise customers to offer personalized intelligent network services that utilize the network services provided by Cisco IOS software. -- Thomas Sullivan
