Oracle, Qwest Sign Hosting Pact

In order to be hip and follow the trend of application hosting, you first need bandwidth. To this end Oracle Corp. yesterday announced more plans for its Business OnLine (BOL) service that provides companies with secure, fast applications hosting.
The first networking infrastructure to sign on is the one owned by Qwest Communications International Inc. (www.qwest.com). The agreement will allow Oracle to use Qwest's high-speed network and data centers to deliver its customers this hosting service.
Becoming an Application Service Provider (ASP) is the in thing for large high-techs these days. Intel Corp. announced an initiative to provide worldwide data centers for hosting (see article in upcoming June 9 issue). Even Microsoft Corp. is providing its BackOffice apps on a subscription basis through an online distributor.
In a related announcement at it e-business show yesterday, Oracle presented a series of solutions that it promises turns companies into successful e-businesses in as little as 25 days.
Called Oracle FastForward, the platform includes strategic procurement, manufacturing, financials, human resource management and business intelligence. -- Brian Ploskina
