Dell to License NuView's ClusterX Software

Dell Computer Corp. and NuView Inc. (www.nuview.com) have entered into a technology partnership whereby Dell will license NuView's ClusterX software. The move brings Dell further into the enterprise high-availability market for its PowerEdge servers and clusters.

ClusterX helps improve the installation, configuration, monitoring and management of Microsoft Windows NT-based network servers linked in a cluster. It will become a key component of Dell's OpenManage systems management strategy.

The companies plan to collaborate on other software tools and enhancements to ClusterX to further optimize cluster performance and availability, another step in Dell's system area network (SAN) direction. These SANs, not to be confused with Storage Area Networks, are collections of clustered servers working together to provide a high level of application availability, performance and flexibility.

Dell plans to make ClusterX available with all Dell PowerEdge server clusters supporting either SCSI or Fibre Channel connectivity to Dell's PowerVault storage systems. --Brian Ploskina, Assistant Editor
