Former Execs Form Storage Company

A team of former top managers from Encore Computer Corp. (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., www.encore.com), Amdahl Corp. (Sunnyvale, Calif., www.amdahl.com) and Blockbuster Entertainment Group (Dallas, www.blockbuster.com) have joined forces to form DataCore Software Corp. (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., www.dcs-ware.com), a new start-up focused on data storage and access.

After Sun Microsystems Inc. acquired Encore's storage controller business for $185 million, Ziya Aral, the chief technical officer and George Teixeira, who led the Product Business Group, founded DataCore. Al Detz, DataCore's chief financial officer, previously served in senior finance positions in the computer industry and most recently held the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer of Blockbuster.

Tim Logan, vice president of sales and marketing, was a former vice president of storage sales. During his 15 plus years at Amdahl, Logan held various positions in engineering, marketing and national sales management. John Bocskor, DataCore's vice president of product development, previously served as the vice president of product development and planning at Encore.

DataCore's vision is to "Develop software that transforms Microsoft based systems into enterprise-wide Virtual Storage Network Architectures which can support the growing Internet and Fortune 1000 information storage demands," says company president George Teixeira. --Brian Ploskina, Assistant Editor
