Microsoft Azure Tapped To Run Symantec's Norton Line

Security software provider Symantec Corp. is using Microsoft's Azure infrastructure to support its Norton line of consumer security products.
According to a Microsoft announcement on Monday, Symantec has moved "105 critical consumer digital safety capabilities" to its datacenters to deliver support for things like "reputation scoring, security telemetry and advanced threat protection."
Symantec also is using Azure services to track "financial, operational and security metrics," the announcement indicated.
"The cloud is key to our strategy to accelerate innovation internally, streamline operations, and ultimately protect and empower our customers in the digital age," said Sheila Jordan, Symantec senior vice president and CIO, in a released statement. "Microsoft has been a strong partner and has helped us to painlessly execute our strategy, far exceeding its commitment to ensure our success."
"This demonstrates how Azure is uniquely able to handle the biggest, most demanding cloud services in the world," said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Cloud and Enterprise at Microsoft, in a released statement.
Symantec is planning to move its e-commerce system, used by consumers to buy Norton software online, to Azure as well. The company is also looking at using "Azure Container Services, machine learning and platform as a service offerings," Microsoft's announcement indicated.
