Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 Released Worldwide

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 was released on Wednesday, both in English and 42-country-specific versions.

The English version of this enterprise resource planning solution carries the "W1" stamp, which a Microsoft spokesperson described as a "worldwide edition," not localized for any country. Microsoft Dynamics NAV tends to be used to support the financial accounting needs of small-to-medium organizations and is part of a quartet of ERP products under Microsoft's Dynamics brand.

This R2 incremental release was pushed out broadly across the globe because the Dynamics team faced multiple impending product deadlines. They consolidated those efforts into this R2 release, according to Microsoft's announcement.

The R2 connects with Microsoft's online payment service and features role-tailored client access for remote users, according to one Microsoft blog description of the new features.

The R2 edition also supports integration with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, both with the online and on-premises versions. This integration is carried out through a connector solution, which will be released on Dec. 17, 2010, according to the blog. Microsoft plans to deliver a new Dynamics NAV connector in mid-January for its upcoming Dynamics CRM 2011 product, which became available this week as a release candidate test version.

Microsoft's Dynamics partners will be getting some perks with the R2 version. They will have access to "a new demo environment" based on running Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 W1 in a virtual machine, according to the blog. This Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 W1 virtual machine "will be available late this year," the blog explains. Partners will have to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 to use it.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 can be downloaded now by partners and customers at the PartnerSource and CustomerSource portals. The Microsoft spokesperson explained that Microsoft's online test drive site has "not been updated to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2" yet.

This blog also provides some helpful links describing the R2's highlights, features and support for developers.
