VMware Enhances Thin Client Partnerships

Stealing some thunder from Citrix's recent XenDesktop unveiling, VMware has made several announcements aimed at strengthening partnerships with thin client suppliers.

The centerpiece is an offering that extends the company's existing partnership with Sun by integrating VMware's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure platform with Sun Ray Software and thin clients.

Sun Ray is a WAN-optimized solution which the company says provides a better end user experience through its ALP display protocol. For hosted desktop virtualization, optimized display protocols are becoming increasingly important for real-time applications such as multimedia, which require less latency.

In addition to Sun, VMware has a large number of partnerships in place with companies such as HP, Wyse, IGEL, ClearCube and Pano Logic. VMware has also announced a new certification program for thin client partners, which will include participation from 13 different suppliers.
