On Monday, VMware announced the release of two new virtualization management
products: VMware Site Recovery Manager, a data and disaster recovery tool for
datacenters, and VMware Stage Manager, designed for automating the delivery
of virtualized applications and environments.
VMware Stage Manager, originally released in beta format in January, is designed to help IT administrators manage all stages involved in enterprise-level virtualized application deployments -- from testing and integration to staging and final release, the company said.
"VMware Stage Manager leverages VMware Infrastructure to provide flexible pools of resources for each of the phases of the release process, eliminating server sprawl and simplifying access for the application administrators conducting the testing and staging," VMware commented in its announcement of the product. "Stage Manager simplifies the application release process with the ability to clone a multi-tier production application in minutes."
VMware Site Recovery Manager is designed to work with the company's VMware
Infrastructure and VMware VirtualCenter, as well with as the datacenter's current
storage provider's software, to provide "automated failover and recovery"
for virtualized datacenter servers, as well as the the ability to test recoveries
and create plans for recoveries within the software itself.
"VMware Site Recovery Manager leverages customers' investment in storage
replication software from VMware's leading storage partners including 3PAR,
Dell, EMC, FalconStor, Hitachi Data Systems, HP, IBM, LeftHand Networks and
NetApp," VMware said of the software. "As a result of this collaboration,
customers can confidently and easily deploy advanced disaster recovery solutions
with the full support of both VMware and their storage provider."
Customers can place orders now for VMware's Stage Manager, which will officially
be released May 19. Those interested in VMware Site Recovery Manager can place
orders starting next week; the product is expected to go live within the "next
30 days," the company said.
Both products will also be available as part of VMware's automation bundles, also announced Monday. The VMware IT Service Delivery Bundle features VMware Lifecycle Manager plus the customer's choice of VMware Stage Manager or VMware Lab Manager. The VMware Management and Automation Bundle consists of all four products: VMware Lifecycle Manager, VMware Stage Manager, VMware Site Recovery Manager and VMware Lab Manager.
VMware did not release pricing information for the individual products or bundles.
