Tech Data to Distribute Fujitsu Servers in U.S.

U.S. VARs have a new x86 server vendor option from a major distributor after Tech Data Corp. announced a deal this month to offer Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers.

Clearwater, Fla.-based Tech Data is the first U.S. distributor for the servers, which have a more significant market share in Europe.

It's the second recent arrangement between Tech Data and Tokyo-based Fujitsu Ltd.'s U.S. subsidiary, Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based arm of Fujitsu also uses Tech Data as a distributor for its Fujitsu ETERNUS SAN solutions.

"Because of our partnership with Tech Data, Fujitsu is now one of only a handful of manufacturers offering VARs the opportunity to deliver a single-vendor server and storage solution," Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing for Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp., said in a statement.

Pete Peterson, a Tech Data senior vice president and general manager, says the Fujitsu servers and storage products are physically compact and energy efficient, giving VARs an opportunity to address demand among CIOs for more energy-efficient and manageable data centers.

Among the plans for Tech Data's VARs: bundled PRIMERGY and ETERNUS packages and pre-configured virtualization software.

Components of the PRIMERGY line that Tech Data will offer include the small-business/branch-office tower, PRIMERGY TX120; the rack-mounted PRIMERGY RX300 S3; and the PRIMERGY BX600 blade server.
