AmberPoint To Issue SOA Governance App

AmberPoint is planning to release an enhanced version of its runtime governance solution for service-oriented architectures (SOAs), rolling out version 6 of its SOA Management System and SOA Validation System.

The platform enables greater network visibility via AmberPoint's new SOA Explorer graphical user interface. SOA Explorer uses Adobe's Flex and AJAX to provide a network overview and monitor operations. Users can also use a new filtering capability, based on runtime data, to drill down into problem areas of the network.

System loads can be monitored and traffic can be automatically regulated via AmberPoint's throttling policies. For instance, IT organizations can set certain business criteria to moderate traffic from various users and applications.

The new version of AmberPoint's software supports environments with lots of SOA components and traffic, according to Ed Horst, AmberPoint's vice president of product marketing. SOA environments have increased in complexity, and in some cases, high-end SOAs now have more than 1,000 SOA components, he added.

"Some SOAs have millions of messages per day, which is a bit of a difference from a few years ago," Horst said.

Other improvements with Version 6 include the ability to access governance capabilities via scripting tools, such as Ant, Perl and various shell applications, which helps IT staff automate processes.

AmberPoint has also added to the list of enterprise service bus solutions supported by the product. Version 6 adds support for the BEA AquaLogic Service Bus, IBM WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus and JMS-based messaging systems (such as IBM's MQ Series and Tibco's EMS).

Version 6 is expected to be available sometime in August, with pricing starting at $25,000.
