Microsoft is pushing to get more developers with MCAD and MCSD.NET titles to upgrade their certifications to the new-generation MCPD, by providing discounts on the MCPD upgrade exams. But the promotion doesn't last long.

The 25-percent discount apply to the following exams:

  • 70-551 UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD Web Developer by Using the .NET Framework
  • 70-552 UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD Windows Developer by Using the .NET Framework
  • 70-553 UPGRADE: MCSD .NET Skills to MCPD Enterprise Application Developer by Using the .NET Framework, Part 1
  • 70-554 UPGRADE: MCSD .NET Skills to MCPD Enterprise Application Developer by Using the .NET Framework, Part 2

The promotion ends March 31, which means candidates must register and take the exam prior to that date. Exams are available worldwide at any exam testing center, according to information on the promotion page. To get the discount, register for the exam with this code: SQV554.

Noteworthy: Save 45 Percent on Selected Developer Books
If you're still in Visual Studio 2005 learning mode and need some guidance, Microsoft Press is currently discounting several books aimed at the MCPD wannabe. The catch: selected titles are available only until Jan. 15 and you get access to them in PDF format only. Consider it a tree saved. Most of the titles are aimed at Web developers, such as Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Step by Step and Programming Microsoft Web Forms. To get the discount, you must order directly from this page.

Microsoft Press does plan to post other book titles sometime between now and June 2007, so check the page periodically.
