EMC's VMware unit has released a beta of its new VMware Server, a free, entry-level
hosted virtualization environment for Windows and Linux servers.
VMware Server is the successor to the company's GSX Server and is designed
to let users quickly provision new server capacity by partitioning a physical
server into multiple virtual machines, the Palo Alto, Calif. company said in
a statement.
VMware Server supports any standard x86 hardware running Windows as well as
Linux, including 64-bit editions of those operating systems. It also supports
Virtual SMP, enabling a single virtual machine to span multiple physical processors.
Users interested in trying the VMware Server beta can download it here.
