Softricity releases SoftGrid virtualization platform for SMS 2003.

Softricity today announced the release of its SoftGrid virtualization platform for Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003.

With SoftGrid, SMS customers can cut costs in deploying applications by leveraging its application virtualization and on-demand streaming capabilities from within SMS, according to a statement from Softricity. Virtual applications can be run and tested like locally installed applications but without affecting the underlying operating system. And with application streaming, users can have access to all their applications whichever network machine they use.

"By integrating Softricity's application virtualization and on-demand software streaming with SMS 2003, customers can accelerate their SMS application deployments and reduce costs by shortening some potentially lengthy management processes -- such as compatibility testing -- while helping IT offer software in the context of services to the business," said Felicity McGourty, director of product marketing in the Windows Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp.

"Microsoft's and Softricity's missions are complementary: making it exceedingly easy and fast for customers to deploy and manage Windows applications and operating systems," said Les Yetton, vice president of business development, Softricity. "We're excited to be partnering with Microsoft to make this possible."

SoftGrid for Microsoft SMS, as well as a more limited version -- SoftGrid for SMS Virtual Extensions Edition, which provides virtualization but not streaming -- are available from Softricity and its partners.

Softricity is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner in ISV/Software Solutions.
