Microsoft Readies Lotus Migration Tools
Microsoft is rolling out new and updated tools to help customers migrate their
Lotus Notes and Domino applications to its own collaboration platform based
on Office and its SharePoint Services.
Although some of the tools are available immediately, others won’t appear
until later this quarter as well as in the second quarter of 2006, the company
said in a statement.
Available immediately, Microsoft is shipping three new application templates
for customers using similar Lotus Notes and Domino templates. The new templates
support Discussion Database, Team Work Site and Document Library applications.
Microsoft released
an initial 30 templates last August.
Coming this quarter, Microsoft will ship the Microsoft Application Analyzer
2006 for Lotus Domino. The application analyzer is meant to improve analysis
of Notes or Domino applications and provide recommendations for migrating them
to Microsoft’s collaboration platform.
In the second quarter, the company says it will release the Microsoft Data
Migrator 2006 for Lotus Domino. The data migrator is designed to enable customers
to migrate data from Lotus Domino template-based applications to SharePoint
Services application templates.
Additionally, Microsoft is updating some of its “co-existence”
tools, specifically Exchange Calendar Connector for Lotus Notes/Domino, Exchange
Connector for Lotus Notes/Domino and Migration Wizard for Lotus Notes/Domino.
