Symantec To Purchase IM Vendor

Symantec announced Tuesday it is acquiring instant messaging software maker IM Logic.

IM Logic specializes in secure enterprise instant messaging systems. In September, the Waltham, Mass. company shipped its Real-Time Threat Protection System (RTTPS), an add-on to its IM Manager and Threat Center products aimed at providing capabilities to predict and combat so-called “zero-day” worm attacks via corporate IM systems.

“IMlogic's technology provides a complete solution to control and secure public and enterprise IM networks while ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate governance policies,” according to a statement from Cupertino, Calif.-based Symantec explaining its reasons for the acquisition.

"With the best-of-breed instant messaging management and compliance software from IMlogic, Symantec will be the first and only vendor to offer a complete security and archiving solution to help customers manage all their messaging requirements," Enrique Salem, Symantec senior vice president of security products and solutions said in the statement.

Symantec said that the acquisition is expected to close “shortly after receiving customary regulatory approvals.”
