Open Text To Work With Microsoft on Content Management

Microsoft and content management vendor Open Text announced a strategic relationship this week that they say will foster closer cooperation between the two firms’ products.

As the first deliverable on that, Open Text introduced a new solution based on its Livelink Enterprise Content Management (ECM) suite and Microsoft’s Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

“The resulting end-to-end solutions from Open Text, which will include vertical-market offerings in financial services and government, will help companies address the complexity of managing an ever-growing volume of online information, a major source of productivity loss and compliance risks,” the companies said in a joint statement.

The announcement came at the Waterloo, Ontario firm’s annual user conference in Orlando, Fla. Open Text also introduced a records management solution for SharePoint Portal Server 2003. It is designed to apply compliance-driven records management retention and disposition policies to content maintained in SharePoint Portal Server.

The new solution builds on Open Text’s content-archiving capabilities for SharePoint Portal Server 2003, which Open Text announced in August. Records management and archiving offerings are designed to let customers create compliant lifecycle management systems. Additionally, the company introduced Web Parts to provide integration between Livelink ECM and SharePoint Portal Services.

Open Text also recently announced plans to offer its Artesia Digital Asset Management on Microsoft’s new SQL Server 2005 database product and plans to use Visual Studio 2005.
