Winternals Ships Defrag Manager 4

Winternals Software is shipping version 4 of its Defrag Manager utility for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

The new version is now closely integrated with both Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Operations Manager 2005. It also supports Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition in the same installation package.

Defrag Manager 4 has also earned certification for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition through testing by VeriTest under Microsoft’s “Certified for Windows” program. The package is designed to let administrators remotely schedule, deploy, monitor, and control defragmentation tasks throughout a Windows-based network from a single console.

Integration with MOM 2005 lets administrators include Defrag Manager status updates in the event management processes provided via MOM 2005. Version 4 can also take advantage of Active Directory to automatically begin defragging computers as soon as they are brought online.

Additionally, the new version’s support for 64-bit systems means those computers will be included in defragmentation schedules. Defrag Manager’s scheduling console can also be run on an x64 system.

Among other additions, the update provides new reporting capabilities that enable administrators to monitor the status of defragmentation operations such as success and failure details; space analysis; and disk and partition information. Administrators can also set up real-time email alerts to inform them of defragmentation status in either HTML or plain-text format.
