Study: 651 Million E-mail Users Worldwide

Worldwide e-mail usage boomed in 2004, according to a new study by the Radicati Group.
In its bi-monthly "Radicati Market Stats," the group reported that worldwide e-mail traffic increased by 35 percent in 2004. Daily traffic was 76.8 billion messages, and corporate e-mail accounted for 83 percent of the traffic.
Also on the rise was the number of e-mail users worldwide -- up 15 percent to 651 million. The percentage of worldwide corporate professionals using wireless e-mail by the end of 2004 hit 17 percent, in Radicati's estimation. The firm projects that figure will increase to 89 percent by 2008.
