Wise Solutions is shipping an update of its premier lifecycle management tool, Wise Package Studio.
The latest release – version 5.5 – adds automated patch impact assessment and testing tools, as well as support for new features in Microsoft’s Windows Installer 3.0.
Wise Package Studio is designed to give systems administrators as well as deployment and desktop management teams an end-to-end solution for application and patch packaging, quality assurance, deployment and maintenance.
Version 5.5, which is available immediately, provides a smooth migration path for customers migrating to Windows Installer (.MSI) format. This latest release also simplifies and automates common installation tasks for Web applications such as installing to Web farms, creating complete websites from scratch, support for IIS 6.0, and the ability to select a Web site at install time.
“With high-quality, efficiently-produced deployments, organizations experience faster software rollouts, simplified Windows Installer migration and a greater return on Windows 2000/XP investments,” the company said in a statement.
With version 5.5, the Wise Package Studio product family is now also available as modular components so that both existing customers and new buyers can add new capabilities without having to buy more functionality than they need. Besides a basic package prosaically named Standard Edition, the family includes the Professional Edition, Quality Assurance, Enterprise Management Server and Application Gateway.
Wise Solutions is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Altiris, Inc.
