Dell, Microsoft Team for Management of Dell Servers

Microsoft and Dell are pairing to develop free software for Dell server customers that will integrate Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 with Dell's OpenManage 4 Change Management tool.

The software, called the SMS 2003 Inventory Tool for Dell Updates, is scheduled to be available in January from www.microsoft.com/management/dell.

According to the companies, customers will get a single view of all PowerEdge servers on the network, which will make it easy to determine what system software, operating system and application updates are necessary. The joint solution is also designed to provide a view of current system software versions on all Dell servers; automated downloads of BIOS, firmware and drivers from Dell's site; and scheduled delivery of hardware updates.
