Abridean Updates Provisioning Software

Abridean advanced its user management and provisioning software this week with a new release that introduces centralized management of policies governing the granting and removing of user access to systems, data and resources.

Abridean on Tuesday announced limited availability of the 5.0 version of its main product, abrideanProvisor. General availability is planned for September.

The product's core function is to enable organizations to define and deploy policies that automate the process of setting up and maintaining user access to applications and resources.

The 5.0 version adds Unified Policy Services for centralized policy management. Abridean executives say centralization of policy creation and management improves organizational security and regulatory compliance.

At the same time that Abridean is making its product more centralized, the company is working on the other end to make it more flexible. The abrideanProvisor now supports phased role deployment to avoid extensive role engineering prior to an initial deployment and more granular delegation of administrator rights.

Abridean supports many of the products requiring user rights in Microsoft shops with agents for Active Directory, SQL Server and Exchange Server, among other Microsoft technologies. The product also extends provisioning capabilities across other common vendor platforms, including Novell, Oracle and Sun directories; IBM, Oracle and Sybase databases; and Lotus messaging systems.
