Intel Drops Celeron Prices

Intel Corp. this week dropped prices by between 6 percent and 14 percent on most of its desktop Celeron processors, the economy chips for desktop systems.

The biggest price drop came for the top-of-the-line 2.6-GHz model. Its price in 1,000-unit quantities fell 14 percent from $103 each to $89 each.

Coming in for 7 percent price cuts were three models. The 2.5-GHz Celeron dropped from $89 to $83, the 2.2-GHz Celeron fell from $74 to $69 and the 2.1-GHz Celeron also went from $74 to $69.

A 6 percent price cut was announced for the 2.4-GHz model, which dropped from $84 to $79. The 2.3-GHz Celeron's price was unchanged at $79. All of the Celeron processors carry 128 KB of cache.
