Office Newcomer XDocs Renamed InfoPath

Microsoft this week gave a formal name to an upcoming XML client that will be an addition to the Microsoft Office family. The product, which had been code-named XDocs, will launch as InfoPath in the middle of this year, Microsoft said.

"[InfoPath] streamlines the process of gathering information by enabling teams and organizations to easily create and work with rich, dynamic forms," Microsoft says. The product will use XML as its standard file type, making integration with XML-enabled server products in a company's back end more straightforward.

Pricing, and whether InfoPath will be included in any Office bundles, has not been established.
