MGE to Offer W2K-Compatible Power Supplies

MGE UPS Systems, a provider of uniterruptible power supplies (UPS), will offer power management software based on Microsoft's new Human Interface Device (HID) that is slated to become the standard for devices interfaced with Windows 2000. HID will include built-in drivers for UPS devices and will be a universal interface for all Windows 2000 peripherals.

The combination of HID with MGE's UPS models will allow "plug and play" functionality with Windows 2000 systems. New functions that will be included in MGE UPS devices used with HID will include faster communications as data bits are transmitted as a description page and easier installation because no conversion protocol between the UPS and the PC will be needed. Users will be able to access the UPS panel from the standard Windows Control Panel; set power schemes to turn off hard drives or the monitor in case of an extended power failure; and create as many schemes as desired to respond to various conditions
