VMware Snags CFO of Microsoft's Skype Division

VMware Inc. named Jonathan Chadwick its new chief financial officer during its quarterly earnings call on Tuesday.

Most recently, Chadwick was a Microsoft corporate vice president and the CFO of Redmond's Skype group. Microsoft last year acquired Skype in a deal valued at $8.5 billion.

Prior to his roles at Microsoft and Skype, Chadwick served as the executive vice president and CFO at McAfee, as well as held several roles at Cisco Systems.

As CFO of VMware, Chadwick will be responsible for overseeing the virtualization giant's global financial operations, according to VMware's press release. Chadwick's new role will be effective Nov. 5. He will report to VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger, who ascended to the CEO position after Paul Maritz exited the company this summer to become chief strategist at EMC.

"As we refine and accelerate VMware's market and innovation strategy, we are squarely focused on delivering increasing value to our customers and shareholders," Gelsinger said in a prepared statement. "Jonathan's tremendous talent and experience in financial controls, business operations and strategic planning will be foundational to these efforts, and we warmly welcome him to the leadership team."

For its Q3 2012, VMware reported revenues of $1.13 billion, a 20 percent year-over-year growth. Net income fell from Q3 2011's $178 million to $157 million this year.
