Microsoft Adds Mobile Analytics to Azure with Capptain Acquisition

Microsoft on Wednesday announced it is acquiring Paris-based startup Capptain for an undisclosed amount.
Capptain is a provider of what it calls a "response marketing" tool. The product is aimed at mobile app developers and marketers, and provides them with real-time data on their app's performance and user behaviors. It also enables apps to interact with users through customizable "push" notifications.
According to the company's Web site: "Capptain allows you to work on user retention and usage. This is done thanks to targeted PUSH notifications based on user behaviour or analytics, that our unique platform extracts, in realtime."
Capptain's service supports apps on all the major smartphone platforms -- Windows Phone, Android, iOS and BlackBerry OS -- as well as on Samsung SmartTV sets.
In a blog post announcing the acquisition, Microsoft indicated that the technology acquired from Capptain will eventually be incorporated into its Azure cloud platform.
"We are hard at work integrating Capptain's solution with the wider Microsoft Azure suite of services so that enterprises can not only build mobile apps to engage customers and employees, but also analyze and optimize that engagement," the blog read. "In the interim, Capptain's existing solutions will remain available to both new and current customers."
