Microsoft Shows New ISP, ASP Tools at ISPCON Spring 2000

Microsoft Corp. demonstrated several Windows 2000-based tools for ISPs, ASPs, cable operators, and telecommunications companies at ISPCON Spring 2000. A keynote highlighted the advantages of Windows 2000, and several tools and technologies were demonstrated.

Among the services provided by Windows 2000 is Windows Media Technologies, which was the focus of a keynote by Will Poole, vice president of Microsoft's (www.microsoft.com) Digital Media Division.

Attendees of ISPCON will see an array of technologies for the ISP/ASP market developed on the Windows 2000 platform, such as a PowerApp Web appliance server from Dell Computer Corp. (www.dell.com), a Web server solution designed to meet the high demand of service providers, dot-coms, and e-business.

Another of the technologies being demonstrated is an automated Web provisioning tool that reduces the time it takes an ISP to provision a Windows 2000-based Web site from 35 minutes to five minutes. The tool also allows non-technical personnel and customers to provision new Web sites themselves, reducing the need for service providers to deploy IT resources.

In addition, Microsoft provides other service and support offerings for service providers. These include the Windows 2000 Service Provider Early Adopter program, as well as Microsoft's TechNet training workshops on Web hosting. - Isaac Slepner
