A New Level for Level8

Lost in the hype of the America Online and Netscape deal, a merger was announced today that may have more relevance for enterprise-level IT departments. Level8 Systems Inc. (New York, www.level8.com), a provider of message-oriented middleware technology, and Seer Technologies Inc. (Cary, N.C., www.seer.com), a provider of enterprise application development and deployment technology, agreed to join.

Chairman and CEO of Level8, Arik Kilman, says the move will help the combined company offer a broad base of Enterprise Application Integration products and services. Kilman cites the gains in the areas of distribution channels, professional services and product development as helping the company achieve its goals.

Sam Somech, president and chief technology officer of Level8, explains that many corporations are facing increased demand to extend the life cycle and return on investment of their legacy systems. He says that the new company "will provide a front-to-back solution, comprehensive and powerful enough to meet the life cycle extension needs of even the largest and most complex enterprise IT environments."

Level8’s Kilman will be chairman and CEO of the new company, Somech will continue to provide technology vision and product development oversight, and Seer’s co-president and chief financial officer Steven Dmiszewicki will be chief operating officer of the new venture.

Level8 recently penned a deal with Microsoft Corp., through which Microsoft will license Level 8’s FalconMQ Bridge to integrate its Microsoft Message Queue Server with the MQSeries message queue server middleware technology from IBM Corp. (see December 9 issue of ENT). --Matt McCann, Associate Editor
