Ingram Micro, the world's largest distributor of IT products and services to the channel, on Thursday said CEO Gregory Spierkel is stepping down effective immediately. Succeeding Spierkel is Alain Monie, who in November returned to Ingram as president and COO.
Monie, who originally joined Ingram in January 2003 as executive vice president, was later named president of the Asia-Pacific region, and named COO in 2007. He left Ingram in 2010 to become CEO of APRIL Management Pte., where he served until returning to Ingram late last year.
According to a statement issued by the company, Spierkel, who took over as CEO in 2005, is leaving for personal reasons but will aid in the transition through April 15. Monie officially becomes CEO on Friday.
"Ingram Micro has a solid strategy with a strong management team," Monie said in a statement. "We will continue to execute this strategy. I look forward to leading the team toward delivering on our key initiatives, while providing best-in-class performance for our customers, vendors and shareholders."
The company also announced that its earnings, to be announced Feb. 9, will come in better than the 55-cents per share that analysts have estimated, according to Thomson Reuters. Ingram did not provide further specifics. "We finished the year with solid overall operating results, with revenue in-line with our expectations and profitability benefiting from favorable margins on hard disk drives driven by the global supply shortage," Monie said.
