SED Becomes Full-Fledged Microsoft OEM Distributor

SED International Inc., a distributor of computer systems, consumer electronics and wireless devices, on Wednesday announced its jump in status among Microsoft's exclusive group of U.S. distributors.

The Tucker, Ga.-based company signed an agreement with Microsoft to become an Authorized U.S. Microsoft OEM Distributor effective Jan. 1 of this year. SED had previously been an Associate U.S. Microsoft OEM Distributor.

"This new agreement allows SED to provide greater value to a broader base of customers. It is also a strong validation of our business model which is focused on providing high levels of service to resellers and vendor partners of all sizes," Jeanie Diamond, CEO and Chairman of the Board of SED International, said in a statement.

John Ball, Microsoft general manager for U.S. System Builder, said in the same statement that SED's customized support and programs bring an important element to the mix of Microsoft distributors.

With the authorized Microsoft distributor status, system builders who acquire Microsoft products from SED are eligible for full Microsoft Partner Program benefits, the company noted. SED, founded in 1980, has been on the move in recent months, inking deals with Seagate Technology LLC and Belkin International Inc.

The Atlanta-area company has its strongest presence in the southeastern United States, with additional sales offices and distribution centers in Dallas, Miami and a new one in Tampa, Fla. The company also has offices in City of Industry, Calif.; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Bogota, Columbia.

By stepping up to the Authorized U.S. Microsoft OEM Distributor level, SED joins ASI Computer Technologies Inc., Avnet, Bell Microproducts Inc., D&H Distributing Co., Ingram Micro Inc., Ma Labs Inc., SYNNEX Information Technologies Inc. and Tech Data Product Management Inc., according to a list on Microsoft's Partner Program Web site.

SED International and Wintec Industries had been the only Associate U.S. Microsoft OEM Distributors, according to the Microsoft list.
