Microsoft Speech Server to Launch in March

Microsoft is revving up to release its packaged speech-enablement server product next month.

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates will launch Microsoft Speech Server 2004 on March 24 at a technology conference in San Francisco, Microsoft announced on Thursday. The server will come in a Standard Edition for single-server configurations and an Enterprise Edition for more scalable and distributed configurations.

Microsoft is bolstering the server, a member of the Windows Server System family, with a partner program to generate an ecosystem around the product when it launches. Microsoft claims more than 60 companies have joined the Microsoft Speech Partner Program since it was created in July.

Partner companies are currently at work on such Microsoft Speech Server-assisted applications as customer relationship management, IT help desk, call centers, banking and sales force automation.
