Rational Software is delivering a .NET Edition of its visual design and development environment.
The Rational XDE Professional: .NET Edition earns the Microsoft .NET part of its name by supporting Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and ASP.NET. Rational added support for Microsoft's flagship .NET language in terms of power developers, Visual C# .NET, in its product line six months ago. Visual Basic .NET, however, is likely to grow a larger base of developers than C#, if the history of C use versus Visual Basic use is any guide.
Tom Button, vice president for the Developer Platform and Evangelism Division at Microsoft, lauded the new Rational product for "complementing Microsoft Visual Studio .NET in many key areas."
The tool integrates with Visual Studio .NET to present developers with a single development interface. The product synchronizes the visual models it generates with the code as it is written.
Rational charges $1,595 per user license for Rational XDE Professional in the United States.
