Dell-EMC Jointly Roll Out Storage Array

Dell Computer Corp. and EMC Corp. this week released the first new piece of storage hardware under their five-year partnership unveiled in October.
The companies paired on a co-branded storage array called the Dell / EMC CX600 that starts at $57,000.
The hardware includes 2-gigabit Fibre Channel technology and eight front-end optical ports with 200 MB/s Fibre Channel throughput on each. It scales to 17.5 terabytes with the addition of disk array enclosures. It is intended for disaster recovery, data warehousing, e-mail, video streaming and other data-intensive applications.
The new system also supports Dell's recently announced NAS and SAN enhancements for customers wanting to integrate Dell PowerVault NAS products with
Dell | EMC SANs. It also includes SnapView and MirrorView software for backup and disaster recovery.
Prior to the October announcement, Dell sold a homegrown line of storage hardware. The Dell partnership, meanwhile, gives EMC a distribution channel for the lower-end Clariion line of storage hardware it obtained from the acquisition of Data General.
Other offerings so far in the Dell-EMC partnership have included software management software, worldwide Storage Area Network Centers of Expertise and integration work between Dell and EMC products.
