Intel Unleashes PIII-M Chips and Mobile Chipset

Intel Corp. added five new mobile processors and three mobile chipsets to its product line this week.
The processors, dubbed Pentium III Processor-M, are based on Intel's new .13 micron technology, which represents significant shrinkage from the previous .18 micron versions.
Intel says the new, smaller processors use up to 40 percent less power and are up to 20 percent faster than the .18 micron chips. The fastest of the new chips comes in speeds up to 1.13 GHz.
The new Intel 830 Chipset family use 133 SDRAM and support up to 1 GB of memory, a 50 percent increase over the predecessor, the Intel 440BX chipset. The chipsets have integrated LAN capabilities and a hub architecture allows for six USB ports.
Intel is working on desktop and server chips built on the .13-micron technology.
The processors come in five speeds: 1.13 GHz, 1.06 GHz, 1.0 GHz, 933 MHz and 866 MHz. In 1,000-unit quantities, prices range from $625 for the 1.13 GHz chip to $247 for the 833 MHz processor. The chipsets cost $37.50 each in 1,000-unit blocks.
