Microsoft: Windows 2000 Hits 1 Million Units

Microsoft Corp. today released an estimate that customers have obtained more than 1 million copies of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Server, and Advanced Server since the product's launch Feb. 17.

Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) says that its estimate includes numbers from product resellers, retail outlets, and PC manufacturers but that it has yet to count its largest customers around the world that have acquired Windows 2000 licenses through enterprise agreements.

At the same time, Microsoft Customer Support is receiving the lowest volume of calls per unit licensed of any previous Microsoft operating system, indicating a high level of customer satisfaction with Windows 2000, according to Microsoft.

"We are thrilled with the tremendous customer response to the Windows 2000 platform," said Microsoft president and CEO Steve Ballmer in the release. "Reaching 1 million units so quickly is testimony to the high quality and reliability of Windows 2000." - Isaac Slepner
