OrbComm Acquires Pool System

OrbComm Global L.P. (Dulles, Va., www.OrbComm.com) today announced that it has acquired the Dolphin Pool Message Analysis and Delivery System (Pool System) and its development team from Montreal-based Dolphin Software Systems Inc. The Pool System was developed over a three-year period to allow OrbComm customers to consolidate widely varying data streams from remote and mobile assets into legacy data systems.

In addition to the Pool System, OrbComm also acquired Dolphin's contracts with monitoring and tracking customers, the rights to the "Dolphin" name and the current employees of Dolphin.

The Pool System is designed to expand the capabilities of existing enterprise management systems such as SAP, Oracle, IBM DB/2 and Microsoft NT beyond the management of conventional information technology assets.

The Pool System collects status and location reports from OrbComm subscriber units mounted on trucks, railway cars or other equipment. Interpreted information is then delivered to corporate users or systems via database synchronization, Internet/intranet access, and integrated fax, pager or e-mail. From a browser, Pool users can access equipment location and gauge levels and other status indicators for globally dispersed assets.
