Microsoft To Roll Out Two Key Dynamics GP Releases in 2014

Microsoft recently laid out the roadmap for its Dynamics GP enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, highlighting two important releases coming by year's end.

Microsoft released Dynamics GP 2013 in late 2012, and subsequently updated the product with two service packs in 2013 -- Service Pack 1 (SP1) arrived in May and SP2 in September.

A timeline posted Saturday on Microsoft's Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog indicates the company is planning to follow up these service pack releases with the R2 version of Dynamics GP 2013 sometime during the first half of this year. Dynamics GP 2013 R2 will bring improvements to workflow and identity management functions, as well as introduce the product's first companion apps, according to the timeline.

The second half of 2014 will bring Dynamics GP's next major release: Dynamics GP 2015. Dynamics GP 2015 will feature "more functionality, more workflow, more apps and a Service Based Architecture that will be the foundation for the further development of Dynamics GP over the next five years," according to the blog.

Going forward, Microsoft said it will space its Dynamics GP updates roughly six months apart in a cycle that is "designed to enhance our new business proposition and bring incremental value to [Business Ready Enhancement Plan] customers on a much more regular basis."

Microsoft also announced that it has created a new U.S. SMB channel team that will be focused specifically on helping Microsoft partners sell Dynamics GP.
