Microsoft Recalls Small Business Server 2003 R2

Microsoft has recalled Small Business Server 2003 Release 2 from manufacturing
last week after the company discovered some of the files were not the most up-to-date.
"During a regular audit as part of our software production process, Microsoft
became aware of an issue with the final SBS 2003 R2 software containing non-final
versions of a few core components to SBS," a company spokesperson said
in an e-mail to this reporter.
Since the product had so far only been released to OEMs, system builders and
distributors, none of the recalled copies reached customers, the company said.
However, due to the process of recalling and reissuing products, there will
be a slight delay in availability.
SBS 2003 R2 was formally
launched at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference in Boston in
mid-July, with expected availability in August. The company has not said how
long the delay will take.
New features in the product include the "Green Check" software
health technology meant to help partners and users protect mission critical
data, and to keep networks, PCs and servers up-to-date.
