Zenprise for SMBs On Deck

Zenprise Inc. is shipping a version of its Microsoft Exchange e-mail management package designed for customers with 1,000 or fewer workers.

The new product, dubbed Zenprise SMB because it is targeted at small and mid-sized businesses, is a scaled-down version of its enterprise Zenprise product, which the Fremont, Calif.-based company delivered four months ago.

Like its bigger sibling, Zenprise SMB "continually analyzes a customer's e-mail infrastructure to pinpoint the underlying causes of performance, reliability and availability issues, and then provides administrators with detailed resolution instructions to remediate problems," according to a company statement.

The product collects operational performance data across the user's entire Exchange environment to determine typical activity levels or performance baselines. The system then detects deviations -- or symptoms -- from the baselines.

Zenprise's "correlation algorithm" analyzes the symptoms and groups related ones. Then, a "causation algorithm" tests the grouped symptoms against several probable causes to accurately determine the underlying cause. Finally, the "correction algorithm" provides options and the steps to take to achieve problem resolution, including detailed instructions as to what to do.

Pricing for Zenprise SMB starts at $2,500 per year for companies with less than 50 employees.
