Microsoft Licenses Voice Technology

Microsoft has purchased an OEM license to use voice-processing software from
Global IP Sound, a developer of voice codecs.
According to a press release issued by Global, it's expected that Microsoft
will use the technology to improve VoIP connections originating from its MSN
service as well as the Office Real-Time Collaboration Service.
Under the deal, Microsoft will deploy Global's VoiceEngine to improve VoIP in
MSN; Global's Acoustic Echo Cancellation and Auto Gain Control algorithms will
be used for improving voice connections in RTC. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Global IP Sounds is a voice-processing
software developer based in San Francisco; the company's technology has been
licensed to companies like Skype, WebEx, and Net2Phone.
