July Patch Tuesday to Bring 3 Bulletins

UPDATE -- The July patches are posted as of 1:40 p.m. Eastern time July 12. Click here for the story.

Following a familiar pattern of chasing heavy patching months with light months, the Microsoft Security Response Center on Thursday said that its monthly security patch release day next Tuesday will bring three new security bulletins.

That comes after a June "Patch Tuesday" with 10 security bulletins.

As of now, the MSRC plans to post two security bulletins affecting Windows and one affecting Office. At least one of the Windows bulletin will carry a fix for a "critical" vulnerability, and the Office bulletin will also fix a "critical" problem, Microsoft's advance notification e-mail stated.

Microsoft will also release one non-security, high-priority update for Microsoft Office on Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services.

Several months ago, Microsoft began notifying customers the Thursday before each monthly Patch Tuesday of the number and maximum severity of upcoming bulletins so that IT departments could budget time and staff accordingly.
