Iomega Shipping Windows Powered NAS

Iomega Corp., best known for its handy Zip personal storage drives, is getting into the game of "Windows Powered" Network-Attached Storage by releasing devices running Windows 2000 technology.
Iomega joins Dell Computer Corp. and IBM Corp. in delivering NAS server appliances based on Windows, an operating system for NAS that is growing market share quickly, according to researchers at IDC.
"This announcement from a partner of Iomega's magnitude illustrates continued momentum for Windows Powered NAS," a Microsoft spokesman said.
Iomega has been in the NAS market for some time with Unix powered appliances.
While 750 MB, the current top capacity for Iomega's Zip drives, is good for a single user, corporate network storage needs are larger and Iomega is planning accordingly. Capacities of the three models in the Iomega line will range from 120 GB to 480 GB. Iomega is targeting small and medium businesses.
Prices range from about $2,000 up to $4,400.
