FullArmor Releases Version 3 of FAZAM 2000

One of the first essential tools to emerge for Windows 2000 and Active Directory environments got a refresh this week. FullArmor Corp. is shipping version 3.0 of its FAZAM 2000 solution for the tricky task of managing Group Policy objects (GPOs).
The ability to set Group Policy is a major step forward in Windows 2000 from Windows NT 4 Server. In addition to the registry-based policy options found in Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 administrators could set policies for domain security, IPSec, file deployment, application deployment, logon/logoff scripts, and startup/shutdown scripts.
With the benefits comes a downside -- monstrous complexity in the way Group Policies flow through a Domain or Organizational Unit.
One of the key advances FullArmor brought to the market with FAZAM was a feature called Resultant Set of Policies (RSoP), which provided the ability to see what a change to a Group Policy Object would do to users and objects down the line.
Other core features of FAZAM included version control, granular delegation, difference and comparison reports, and restore and backup capabilities.
The 3.0 release of FAZAM is about process. "[Our enterprise customers] are demanding a process-driven approach to managing the GPO lifecycle," FullArmor's CEO, Rich Farrell, says.
To that end, FAZAM 3.0 introduces change tracking of GPOs, GPO version control, a mandatory test environment for GPO changes and locking to prevent two administrators from simultaneously changing the same GPO.
