Oracle9i Release 2 Ships

Oracle put out its second release for its flagship Oracle9i database on Wednesday, and this time there's no lag for a Windows version.
The first release of Oracle9i came out in late June 2001 and the Windows version didn't ship until about 3 1/2 months later.
Oracle is engaged in a three-way fight for users on Windows servers. Oracle is competing with Microsoft and IBM in the fast-growing Windows database market, and Oracle trailed Microsoft for the first time in database revenue on the Windows platform in 2001, according to Gartner's market research division.
The second release of Oracle9i comes about a year after the first release. The database runs on Unix, Linux and Windows, although the major emphasis with the second release is on Linux use.
Enhancements in the second release include new high availability, business intelligence and XML features, along with performance and management improvements. Oracle says 11,000 users have downloaded Oracle9i Second Release from the Oracle Technology Network in the month leading up to the availability announcement.
