WRQ Supports Active Directory in Web-to-Host Product
The latest version of Web-to-host software from host access vendor WRQ Inc. adds support for directory services, including Microsoft's Active Directory.
WRQ this week announced Reflection for the Web 5.0. In addition to the directory support, version 5.0 brings new security and scripting features.
Reflection for the Web allows users to access legacy applications by distributing Java applets that run in a browser window to client machines. According to the company, this can cut down on the management burden by ensuring each user uses the same terminal emulation software. Moreover, users can access their legacy application from any machine, so working from home or on the road does not require the installation of a local client.
Version 5.0 adds the ability to integrate Reflection for the Web with several types of directory services. Windows 2000’s Active Directory, SunONE (formerly iPlanet) Directory Server, Novell Directory Services, and IBM Secureway are all supported by the release.
By integrating with directory services, enterprises can use the directory as a user repository for managing application permissions. Users can be authenticated via the directory and logged on to the appropriate application.
The new version also offers Web-based remote administration, giving administrators the ability to perform management tasks on the Reflection server from any machine.
WRQ also developed a new API, Reflection Emulator Class Library, which expands the ability of enterprises to customize the product.
Finally, the latest version of Reflection for the Web has improved security features. The product now supports key lengths up to 2048 bits, uses RSA authentication and key exchange, and can use SSL authentication through a proxy server.
