Low-end Stratus Fault-Tolerant Server Updated to 2-Way

Stratus Technologies Inc. this week began shipping its lowest price fault-tolerant PC server in a two-processor SMP configuration.
The ftServer 3200 line has always been billed as two-way capable, but it was available only in one-processor configurations when it began shipping in August.
Stratus also dropped prices on the server by 5 percent with one-way servers now starting at $17,487, and introduced a rack-mount version that fits in 8U.
Stratus has offered its own two-processor-capable fault-tolerant server, the ftServer 5200, since June. The 3200 series is based on systems built by NEC Corp. that use Stratus' fault-tolerant technology through an OEM license.
The Stratus approach doubles up processors and memory and causes each processor-memory combo to perform tasks in lockstep. If one processor-memory module fails, the other continues working without interruption.
Therefore, one-way SMP systems actually carry two processors. Two-way SMP systems have four processors.
The systems run Windows 2000 Advanced Server and use Intel processors.
