CA Demos Scalability of Windows Backup Software

In a sign of the growing demand for scalable Windows-based storage solutions, Computer Associates Tuesday demonstrated the scalability of its new enterprise backup software on a Windows platform.

CA went to Doculabs Inc. to review and support its claims about BrightStor Enterprise Backup, CA's newly released backup-and-recovery software.

Doculabs affirmed that CA's BrightStor software sustained a backup throughput of 1.2 terabytes per hour of an online Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database.

The tests were performed at Unisys Corp.'s labs in Mission Viejo, Calif., on a four-processor Unisys ES7000 server.

CA is also claiming sustained backup rates of 939 GB per hour using the software on Windows NT using CA's internal systems.

CA's BrightStor backup and recovery software, which also supports Solaris and HP-UX data, is immediately available. CA plans to add support for IBM AIX and Compaq Tru64 Unix.
