Sophos Issues New Virus Warning

Sophos today warned companies to be aware of electronic Valentine’s Day cards that could harbor dangerous viruses.

“Sending joke programs, screensavers, and electronic valentine cards increases the risk of virus infection,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos Anti-Virus.

Sophos has reported that virus writers are increasingly using psychological temptations such as love, money, and lust to encourage innocent users to activate viruses. Last year’s “Love Bug” posed as a love letter and millions of users were duped. Sophos suggests that all organizations teach employees safe computing practices and to be suspicious of any unsolicited e-mail attachments. – Isaac Slepner
