Apple: QuickTime to Run on NT Servers

At Internet World in Los Angeles, Apple Computer Corp., the chief rival of Microsoft Corp. for operating system market share, released Darwin 1.0, its open-source operating system.
As a result of Apple's (www.apple.com) foray into the open-source arena, its QuickTime streaming multimedia software will be able to be served from Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) Windows NT-based servers.
The software that will allow QuickTime to make the jump is known as Darwin Streaming Server, the open source version of Apple's QuickTime Streaming Server. An update to Darwin Streaming Server allows it to run on both PowerPC and Intel-based architecture. This makes the software available to Windows NT-based servers, as well as to servers based on Mac OS, FreeBSD, Linux, and Solaris. - Isaac Slepner
