Novell Releases Plans for Integrated Net Services

On the opening day of BrainShare, Novell Inc.'s annual user conference, the company announced plans to deliver a comprehensive new architecture linking all types of networks and network services. The new architecture, code-named DENIM (Directory-enabled Net Infrastructure Model), will be the standard on which all future Novell products are built.
The DENIM model focuses on a customer-centered framework for deploying directory-enabled products and services from Novell (www.novell.com) as well as its industry partners. The architecture centers around Net services, a category of software that secures and powers all types of networks - Internet, intranets, and extranets, wired and wireless, corporate and public - as one Net, across many leading operating environments.
The DENIM model will have three main areas of Net service. Net management services will simplify and consolidate the management and control of internal and external network resources. Net Content Services will include publishing, storage, and delivery of key information throughout the Net environment. Net Portal Services provide integration identity and knowledge services that create a flexible and secure foundation for e-business applications.
In his address introducing DENIM, Steve L. Adams, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Novell, promised that Net services from Novell will be in-the-Net, performing specific and persistent roles that reside in the Net; universal; modular; and cross-platform.
DENIM will include products packaged as software sold through Novell channels to enterprises or service providers; appliances sold via OEMs; or Net-hosted services. - Isaac Slepner
